The New Adam: Jesus saves us from our sins

Friday brought the week to a close, and it closed well: a BBQ where a real number of parents and guardians came out. Talking with them, it became clear how many of them aren't new to any of this — several have been part of DayStar events for years already. We handed out loot bags of toys, and prayed once more over one of our campers, who repeated the sinner's prayer with us again, asking Jesus into his heart and affirming it out loud.
This whole week has landed somewhere close to disbelief. God parted the Red Sea for us — that's genuinely the only way to describe it. Before this trip even started, we were meeting adversity on every front: sickness, a burned garage, the loss of a venue, fewer helpers than we needed, etc. None of that stopped what happened this week. Watching God work, seeing His plan unfold in real time, and getting to join Him in it isn't something you can manufacture. It's only available to people willing to trust Him through every stage and actually go.
Some of the deepest ground made this week was with Ali Jo, who turned out to be remarkably resourceful and connected — she's already talking about who she can introduce us to next. Her vision goes far beyond this one week: she wants to see portables set up and a worship centre built right on her property, a real place for the people of Wiky to gather and worship.
There's a verse in Romans 10:14-15 that says: "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?" It's tempting to think that if God really wants people to know Him, He'll simply make it happen without needing us — but that's not quite it. Notice how the passage ends: someone has to be sent. God's plan was never to work around us; it was to work through us. As Paul puts it, "We are co-workers in God's service; you are God's field, God's building" (1 Corinthians 3:9), and "we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10). God will make a way — and the way, again and again this week, has been us saying yes and showing up.
Volleyball turned out to be a brand new ministry, one Alfred basically birthed from nothing this week. So many unknowns — teenagers who don't naturally wake up early, a steady stream of walk-in drop-ins with no warning — and he built trust and love in the middle of all of it, because Jesus loved us first, and only then did the gospel start to get shared, piece by piece.
And the guardians gave us something back today, too. We got updates from a few of them — pictures of their kids running the puppet show themselves at home, taking turns reading the Bible out loud the same way Michelle did with the campers all week.
God parted the sea for us. Now it's on us to take the steps of faith and walk through it.
